Torchwood

Post by Stopwatch »

So, it's been agreed that instead of talking 'bout Torchwood in the Doctor Who thread a new one should be made specially for it.
For those who don't know what Torchwood is, it's a more adult spin off of Doctor Who (though you don't have to have seen DW to watch it) and is about a group of alien hunters. It's an odd mix of Scifi and... something else, but the characters are well characterised and it's interesting. People who don't like slash/yaoi or femslash/yuri should probably stay away from it though, the pairings are a bit weird compared to other TV shows...

Yeah just like Jack hooking up with a dude on a bar.
Anyways anyone feels creeped out on how the pedophile was treated with dirt but now as a god of some sort?

I love Torchwood. (FYI, with Jack it really doesn't need to move. He'll do all the work for you, baby.) I love Gwen to bits, though it does suck for her that she has to live in The Middle Of Nowhere, Wales, to get any peace and even then she's terrified all the time.

Anyway, I'm very interested in the Miracle Day premise. I'm guessing at the true plot being an attempt to breed some sort of super-virus... or maybe the aliens causing it take on a viral life form? I've just kinda latched onto that guy talking about how pumping people full of antibiotics forever will turn them into virus incubators for viruses that eventually become immune to all antibiotics. I wonder if Jack was just being facetious by saying that the warehouse was larger on the inside too. It was hard to tell. Also, the PR/Drug rep/Demon lady is freaking me out. No discernible morality and apparently a vested interest in anybody too intelligent who's investigating the miracle and a pedophile murderer.

As an aside, he creeps the crap out of me. I'm convinced he was putting it on when he was crying and apologizing, and he's going to tell the world that he had been expecting, nay HOPING to die for his crime but how can he bear to live forever with this unbearable sin and it's torment and YOUR FORGIVENESS AND CREDIT CARD NUMBER WILL HELP SO MUCH! And everyone will become some kind of weird crossbreed between Scientologists and the Maskies from Marble Hornets.

I'm deeply curious about how you flip the switch on mortality, though. How do you actually do that?

It's good writing, and my family in particular are pissing ourselves laughing at all the US vs UK jokes, due to our household being half American, half Scottish. Favourite line: "Are you the best England has to offer?" "I'm Welsh." *bitchpwn*

Spoiler:
How can they killed her? She was such a good character and for him to see her die like that. Just sad. The whole Phicorp is doing its practically what Hitler did. A holocaust for the dead. I love the episode its really dark and dramatic compare to the rest of the season. And this makes the high point of the show. Hopefully it can stay like that.

Do you mean that "Dead is Dead" lady that they put in the crusher? To be honest, she was annoying the crap out of me, but even I was cringing when she was put in the crusher. And the poor sod isn't even dead.

I'm worried about what's going to happen in these camps, but they seem predominantly to be storage. I still think it's something to do with virus breeding, something a guy mentioned before. Keep all these sick and weakened people close together in one place, viruses jump from one to another, keep breeding, keep getting stronger...

I meant Doctor Juarez though it isn't show on screen. And as for the camps pretty much what I said. A holocaust for the people who were meant to die. I.E. the camps are just concentration camps ready to be sent to the furnace.

Wait, sorry, did I miss something last week? When did Doctor Juarez die? Or not, as the case may be.

I see it more as storage than extermination, although that American pundit lady was touting some worryingly Naziesque ideals.

So, to be the first to comment on today's episode...
Spoiler:
HOLY MOTHERLOVING SHIT! DR JUAREZ!!!!

OK, I was wrong, it's both. Storage, then extermination. Kills my petri dish theory. I have no new theories, mainly because I can't figure out where the money is in making people immortal just to barbeque them off as they get sick or injured.

I just KNEW, this being Torchwood, that something bad was gonna happen to Rex or Vera, or probably both. Didn't see that coming, though, until about five minutes beforehand.

My other thought is that that Maloney guy was such an utter creeper that I think I need to go wash my eyeballs.

My thoughts on this week's episode:
Spoiler:
Watching Esther kick Maloney's ass was SO FREAKING CATHARTIC. And my whole family applauded that soldier dude for growing a pair and shooting Maloney.

Rhys also gets awesome points for doing all that he does.

But OMG ANWEN! D: If anyone lays a finger on that baby, I want to see then get torched. I really do.

I am okay with the whole gay rights thing, but did we really have to have sex scene at the beginning of the episode?
Well at least it explains the whole back story of whom is responsible of the whole "Miracle Day".

You can always watch it online The Finale wasn't that great it was alright it has a cliffhanger. Don't you think this series has dragged on and should of had shorter episodes?
