I can't remember the name of the book at all, and I've been searching with no results...

The story itself has no characters; it is simply a depiction of a number of rooms in a very detailed fashion.
For some reason, the book was banned during its publication. I can't remember in which year it was written, but it's probably during the Victorian era or even earlier..
If any one knows what book I'm talking about, I'd sincerely appreciate it...
