What other mystery shows have you watched/recommend?
I came to watch Detective Conan, not because it is anime, but because I ran out of British mystery shows to watch. I though I would start a topic to share some of the shows I found that I thought were great for the armchair sleuth in hope that some of you would too. Some have already been mentioned within other discussions (mainly the mystery novel section) and I thought it warranted its own topic. I won't list many from there so anyone is welcome to claim them. If anyone has seen any of these, I would love to discuss.
Jonathan Creek - This is my favorite and every mystery is genius. This is the one of the VERY limited number of mystery shows that I would feel could rival DC. Jonathan Creek is a magician's assistant. I say assistant, but he creates the tricks. This incite allows him to solve some pretty impressive mysteries.
Veronica Mars - I know. I hate teenage drama as much as the next guy, but this is a mystery show that rewards those who pay attention. I don't like the length of the mystery (a full season) and I am not a fan of the 90210 culture, but this may have something to offer if you have lots of time on your hands.
Midsomer Murders - Standard detective mystery show. Set in a fictitious rural county of England, you get the clues and see the events just like Chief Inspector Barnaby. These are usually 'getable' and while it may not challenge the most savy here, it is definitely worth of such viewers.
State of Play - British show that follows an investigation/conspiracy from the point of view of an investigative reporter. While possibly not solvable in the same terms as the others (which isn't to say it isn't solvable), this is a smart show that has you guessing the truth.
So what about you guys? Have any of you watched PBS Mystery! ? Some of you aren't from the English speaking world. What kind of mysteries do they have in your language and is that available in English?

there was this one show called murder where ordinary people try to solve a mystery. The murders where very easy they weren't really a challenge. The show lasted only 2 episodes.

Definitely Psych and possibly Monk (I them both because they are funny and the mysteries can sometimes be tricky). They are both USA and should be returning soon (thanks to the writers strike a lot of shows are gonna take a bit to come back with a new season).
Detective Academy Q (Tantei Gakuen Q) is another good Anime. Though a lot of the problems are rather simple, and you can't go 10 episodes without a "perfect murder/locked room", it is still worth watching in my opinion.
.Hack//Sign (or all the .Hack//'s for that matter) is a great Anime and is centered around a profoundly interesting plot that has mysterious elements a developments around every corner. Though not a mystery show in the sense of DAQ or DC, it is still a good watch and is highly recommended (I also recommend .hack//Infection - .hack//Quarantine as well as the new G.U. Canon). If you like this then you will also most likely find .Hack//Legends of the Twilight and .Hack//Roots of interest (I have not yet finished Roots or played G.U. but will when I get around to it).

Death Note is an anime series all Conan fans will find marvelous. It's serialized into 26 episodes, and even though it's not strictly a detective show, you'll find in it all the ingredients which make us love DC.

Here in Spain, they showed a TV Drama based on Detective Conan (I think it was aired previously in South America) which was called "Hermanos y Detectives" (Brothers and Detectives), which dealed with a incompetent detecitve (he had moustache, so it was kind of Kogoro) and his little brother, who solved all the cases and tell his elder brother, for him to get the honors, because no one will ever believe a kid. The series were really retarded in very ways, and I really didn't like it, but it was kind of curious.
Here's a photo of the main characters.

lol I just realized that the "Conan" boy seems just so lame.

House also has some good mystery elements to it that most might find interesting. Though it is a medical diagnosis show, it is quite witty and well written. The show is never dull and is quite more realistic than most shows in my opinion (since House quite often makes mistakes and patients sometimes die). The reality factor also makes it like Detective Conan, because, like House, Conan does not always get it right away, and they both have occasional failures.

I absolutely hated Death Note, I don't know why, it had everything going for it... But Psych is hilarious, and House is sort of a mystery, if you know what they're talking about. If you're looking for and anime that has a mystery theme to it, I'd go with nijuu mensou no musume. That's a really good one!Guille wrote: Death Note is an anime series all Conan fans will find marvelous. As for a good mystery, I haven't watched the entire series, but Foyle's War seems pretty entertaining as a mystery/drama from what I have seen of it. Has anyone else watched this series?
I don't understand why people think it has that many elements in common with DC though -- one is a psychological cat and mouse game, the other is a modern sherlock holmes dramatic-comedy )
Does anyone else feel this way about death note?
The chase of the first half of the death note series was entertaining, but I can't say that for the second half of the series.Guille wrote: Death Note is an anime series all Conan fans will find marvelous. The TV Vault tracker just put the entire 70's Ellery Queen series up on freeleech.
Oh, and the show I mentioned in the first post, State of Play, is being remade into a movie starring Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren, and Rachel McAdams.

i have a lot things to talk about first death note is about 37 episodes, second that Spanish show is a rip off and idiotic looking, third you guys are forgetting kindaichi shonen no jikembo/ kindaichi case files almost as good as detective academy Q, both shows have the same mangaki and one is completely subbed by two groups (DAQ) and kindaichi is still stuck at episode 11 out of more then 150 there is a Agatha Criste anime that looks good

I'd post a picture... but they're all too deliciously promiscuous.
