Re: The Twilight Topic

Post by kyuuketsuki »

My friend convinced me to try reading it... Didn't get very far... horrible writing is horrible. Didn't even care that the story was shit. Which I discovered later...

Broken logic, Broken vampires, a broken story with broken morals....

Allow me to elaborate that a bit...

These vampires want to remain in the shadows... right? So... Why would they go to high school? Wouldn't that cause many people to see them regularly? And wouldn't someone eventually figure it out? And isn't that a fate worse than death?

More broken logic... Asshole stalker = girl's dream guy... Don't think I need to elaborate here...

Broken vampires:
"vegetarian"?? I know what they were going for, but blood is still blood... drinking blood means you are not a vegetarian because animals and people are not vegetables (though apparently some have the intelligence of a vegetable)

Sparkling in the sun? really? Not even going to give this one the time...

A vampire that doesn't want to kill all the humans around him/her. A vampire in a high school is like a kid in a candy store! Vampires are monsters that drink blood!

I could go into the various powers but those became liberal over the years...

Broken story/morals

The whole premise is ridiculous... I'm not going to list why... But there are many reasons...

Broken morals... no sex until marriage or else you will die! Also ideals for a male companion that will set women's rights back several decades..

This. :|

Even worse than the horrible portrayal of vampires and the main characters that make me want to shoot myself was the whole relationship between Edward and Bella (and Jacob and Bella).

A creepy stalker is exactly that: creepy! It's not romantic that someone sits outside your window every night and watches you sleep!

There was so much wrong with Edward and Bella's relationship that I can't even begin to describe it. I have never so badly wanted to throw a book out the window.

And don't even get me started on how exactly the entire plot of Breaking Dawn worked. >.<

yeah, it's saying that that's the major reason that you went to see it. :P

nah, you got it all wrong. It's not being a creepy stalker at all, because he's pretty. That makes it okay, of course.

Regarding the vampires, I seem to recall a quote from Meyer saying "What's the problem with the vampires? It's not like there are any rules about them" or something along these words.
In my opinion, if someone decides to use a certain folk/mythical/fantasy creature that was used in the past a lot, and then change every single thing about them and their personality, then invent a new name for it, because obviously, it's not that creature anymore. So it would be better to simply create a new creature instead of messing with an existing one to the point that you change almost everything about it.

For example:
Don't call it elf if its ears are not pointy (I'm aware of the pre-Tolkien small fairy-like elves, but I'm pretty sure their ears are also pointy)
Don't call it dwarf if its tall
Don't call it goblin/orc if its beautiful
Don't call it nymph if its ugly

^No rules to vampires? seriously?!

I wonder if she's read the very first vampire story, cause things about vampires haven't changed since then.

Oh didn't you know? When you look up vampire in the dictionary, there is no definition besides "blood sucker"....
....
....
OH WAIT! Sorry... It does say creature of the night, usually feasting on people as they sleep or what have you. There is mythology that is long standing that they are monsters and sleep in coffins. I think Stephanie Meyers never picked up a dictionary, read any European mythology (or any other country's vampire lore for that matter), and sure as hell didn't google it, because THERE ARE DEFINITE RULES FOR VAMPIRES! Such as vampires DON'T SPARKLE IN THE SUN AS THEY ARE CREATURES OF THE NIGHT! Can't sparkle in the sun if you are never subjected to daylight! And sure as hell can't go to high school (again there is broken logic with that, just read my earlier post).

I still say we should shoot her!

I like Terry Pratchett's vampires better. "I am a reformed vampire, which is to say that I am a bundle of suppressed instincts held together with spit and coffee. I'm not allowed to tear your throat out because that would get me in trouble with the League, but that doesn't mean that I can't kick you so hard in the fork that you go deaf!" It gets really good in Carpe Jugulum when the vampires, attempting to protect themselves from holy symbols, discover that due to the millions of religions on the Disc, almost anything is a religious symbol and they start seeing them everywhere.

^ When I was reading Twilight on the plane to see my Grandparents and Aunt, I saw Twilight at the airport book store and decided to buy it.

7 hours later, I was on page 110 (I'm a fast reader) and it was a complete waste of money.
Seven hours, 110 pages and fast reader? Does not compute.
