Waaaaaaat

Why is this even necessary

???
The UK has to make everything more British.

I wish I wasn't being completely serious.

I checked it out and it's because the Mockney accent that the Americans liked was hated so deeply by the British test groups that they were worried that the game would be unmarketable in the UK. (I don't blame them, it's absolutely horrendous. Not that his UK accent is great, but it doesn't spur on actual hatred in me. The one he's got in the US is just so bad!)

I don't see the problem outside of the painful "LET'S SEE IF I SOLVED THE PUZZLE CORRECTLY OH NO FACEPALM I FAILED TRY AGAIN" lines you will hear 2932943943 times but ok.

I've had Unwound Future for over a week but haven't even opened it yet. Not because I don't wanna play it but because it will be the only new handheld game I'll have to play until Christmas so I might as well do everything I can in SoulSilver first.

So they couldn't just use the UK voice for the Americans?

... Wait I get it.  Americans don't actually speak English

I don't know why they do that, no. Nor why the American and English versions often have different titles (Pandora's Box is called The Diabolical Box in the USA, and The Lost Future is called The Unwound Future. Don't ask me why they do it.)

In other news, I finished my angsterific Professor Layton AMV! Warning: It spoils the third game to all hell, as well as a particularly badass moment from the movie.

I haven't actually played any of the games (yet!), but as for the changing of the titles....

It's because when they market it towards Americans they like to dumb things down so we can understand it. ::) We're all ignorant and don't know anything about Pandora's Box, so they have to change it a title we can follow and might actually be interested in. ::)

(It worries me that I don't think this is entirely wrong. Though I can't explain the Lost/Unwound difference.)

(Also, randomness: Greek mythology ftw!)

Agreed ^ :D

(As for "Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone", apparently the American marketers thought that "Philosopher" was too long and complicated a word for the kids. They are actually quoted on saying this. *headdesk*)

Also, similarly for things being changed for American audiences, if you look at the boxart for any kirby game, the american version always has kirby edited to look angry/extreme instead of happy.

At least that's what we're letting other people think.

Then again, I'm un-American so my opinion doesn't count. :P

While I do think this happens sometimes, in this case I genuinely believe they wanted to make the titles sound more original and to be quite honest, I am sick of Pandora's Box being mentioned in half of every work of fiction anyway.
