Spoiler:
There were a few plot holes IMO, not least of all how easily people got revived and the stuff with River, including the random telepathic dreams never before seen. Still, pretty good overall, even if the cliffhanger was evil. But, lovely continuity references (though Nine running past won't stand up to freeze frame) and the Valeyard was mentioned which makes me wonder if the "introducing" guy is him. That would be awesome ^^.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that River being invisible was so amusing, plus Strax discovering Glasgow XD.

(potential 50th anniv spoilers, would use multiple spoiler tags but apparently only 1 is showing up in the post preview :V)
Spoiler:
About the John Hurt bit, from rumors that have been floating around for a while now, John Hurt was actually brought on for the 50th anniversary because Eccleston and Moffat had a bit of a falling out regarding the 50th anniversary episode, ending with Moffat deciding against casting him for whatever role he was gonna have, and replacing him with Hurt. So to make that work canonically, rather than 8 or 9 being the Doctor that ended the Time War, it'll be this one who'll basically be 8.5, and what Smith was saying at the end about him "disgracing the name of the doctor" would probably be the excuse they'd use for keeping the numbering the way it is.

Spoiler:
Eh, it's been known for a long time that Eccleston didn't really intend to come back. Most rumours around him leaving in the first place were around him being typecast or him not liking the conditions some of the non-actors had to work in, neither of which would exactly leave him wanting to return.

Anyway, my favourite explanation so far is him being the original Nine (or to make things simpler, 8.5), probably best explained here: http://cavalorn.livejournal.com/586789.html. Got to say I would still like to see the Valeyard appearing and am personally hoping he isn't just the escaped Dream Lord (though with Eleven being Twelve that would make that some pretty good Fridge Brilliance), but eh, I also like this potential plot I guess. It seems suited for the 50th given there'll be none of the Classic Doctors.

That was some unexpected news!

The Doctor is dead, long live the Doctor ::)

Does it mean that we'll have to wait more for the new "normal" season to come back, since a new doctor has to be cast ???
I'm sad that Matt Smith is leaving, Doctor Who made him really famous, since he was a nobody before that.

I can't wait to see who they are going to cast next, they usually find good actors, so I'm not worried!

I've heard people suggest Idris Elba for the new Doctor. I can't even tell you how much I want this to happen.

(Actually what I'd really love is for the Doctor to regenerate female but I really don't want a female Doctor written by Moffat.)

I haven't seen anything he did, apart from Heimdall in Thor. He seems to be in a lot of things these past few years, doesn't he? So maybe he won't be available. ???

If Benedict Cumberbatch can manage to film Sherlock, Star Trek and The Hobbit all at basically the same time, I'm sure Idris Elba can make his way around. DON'T DESTROY MY DREAMS.

... What if Benedict is the next doctor..?
I heard he wanted to be 11 (tough apparently Tennant talked him out of it)
