Remember in The Sarah Jane Adventures series 4 episode Death of the Doctor Part 2 Clyde asked The Dcotor how many times can he regenerate and he answered 507.

You know what? I'd love to see a three way crossover... MiB v Doctor Who v Torchwood (before Jack transformed it). I don't know why, but when I think about it, I can't help but imagine a Doctor v Agent J talk-off. And that entertains me.

@reozen: remember the doctor always lies

Yeah, I know I was going to say he was probably joking but you never know it could be true.

I can fully imagine Agent K having met The Doctor before. They probably start laughing about some Noodle Incident involving a space hippo.

See, I interpret it as "The Silence will fall..." which is why they're so determined too stop him.

Concerning the Doctor's regenerations...

There is no set number of times he can regenerate, but in the story "The Deadly Assassin" it was said that a Time Lord could only change 12 times (13 lives) and it was taken it as gospel, However in "Trial of a Time Lord (part 13)" it was stated (by the Master) that the Valeyard was between the Doctor's 12th and 13th regeneration, indicating that he had at least 14 lives.

However with all that said there is one thing that you need to remember - River said it herself - "the Doctor lies". So we have no idea how many times he can actually regenerate. This may be Steven Moffat's way of getting the series out of the 13 regeneration limitation.
Life is just a magical mystery.

The doctor has as many lives as ratings allows methinks. Plus with I think it was the 10th? being around for such a short amount of time I highly doubt they would restrict themselves to that limit. It was the doctor that the actor didnt want himself typecasted so he left rather quickly, I think it was the one before David Tenent(sp)

Christopher Eccleston never really comes back in any series he does after the first season.

that was 9th doctor and about whole regeneration issue. I think it was a law back when Geliffory was still there for time lords. I kinda see it as life and population control for timelords as when they reach 13th regeneration they refuse to regenerate ( akin to what master did at last of time lords) But with Geliffory gone, I suspect now that limitation is gone.
