Season 4 will definitely happen. By the time they finish this season, I expect they'll work out a time to film it in the near future instead of ending up with this situation they've had this time around. Now that Martin Freeman is mostly finished with his Hobbit commitments (apart from annual press work) and Benedict is finished with Star Trek, there should definitely be more room to work with. I'm sure they'll both be getting offered roles left and right, but they'll keep room for Sherlock, no worries about that.

Okay, when I saw this post I thought you guys were talking about Elementary ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2191671/ )
But then those opinions were too good, so I thought I'd check the trailer, and it wasn't the same show.
About Elementary, I think it's not bad, but certainly to use a girl for Dr. Watson, As a Sherlock Holmes fan, I think this is too far-fetched.
The cases may be good, but I will not watch it, most likely. (half a episode was enough for me :), I apologize to the fans, but I really don't like it)

And about BBC's Sherlock Holmes, I really want to check it out now.
It's actually the first time I hear about this show and I'm kinda excited, especially with all those positive thoughts about it !! :>

Letting other people's opinions shape your expectations (and inevitably and subsequently, your own opinion), whether it be in the positive or the negative, is something I would caution to avoid. From my experience, reading reviews and "opinions" will only bias you one way or the other and will shape how you approach it. If you see a movie has an IMDB rating of 4.5, when you watch that movie, you will be expecting a 4.5 movie and will experience it as such. If you don't know the "consensus" about a movie going into it, you'll experience it on your own terms and form your own opinion, independently of what others have decided.

As another Sherlock Holmes fan, there's nothing wrong with a female Watson or an Asian Watson or a black Watson or gay Watson or any other type of Watson that deviates from the original because, truthfully, those are all generally very superficial differences. There are very few Holmes adaptations that showcase anything even remotely resembling the original Watson. Neither "Elementary" nor "Sherlock" try to bring Watson from the canon to life, but instead use his essence to create a new, but still similar, character that plays well off the Holmes they have developed and shares the same name.

I don't mind Joan Watson because she's still so very Watson. The essential soul of Watson and his/her relationship with Holmes is still very much the same. I do like how Liu!Watson and Miller!Holmes are different to Freeman!Watson and Cumberbatch!Holmes, as well as Law!Watson and RDJ!Holmes, yet they're all recognizably Watson-and-Holmes. So long as they're still recognizably true to the soul of the characters, I don't care if they're a pair of Labrador puppies.

The above is, I have to admit, among the reasons I don't like Moffat's Irene Adler. Also, is he playing silly buggers again with the foreshadowing?

It's a nice way to put it, never thought about it this way.
In my mind it looks like some kind of "parody" of the the original story, and I can't really watch it!

I really advise you to at least try it. It's just as good as Sherlock, with the added bonus that there's more of it.

I blame Tumblr. Too many bad puns and it becomes infectious.

Unrelated to John's facial hair, has anyone see any of the Japanese dub? I'm not thrilled with the choice for Watson's dub actor; he sounds more like the traditional Nigel Bruce-type Watson, rather than softer-spoken Freeman. The dialogue seems to have been simplified a bit, too (though I respect that, as it would take a Herculean effort to translate any of that rapid-fire deduction dialogue into something that would make sense in another culture).

I am incredibly excited about the new season of Sherlock, as it has become one of my favorites. I hadn't watched television in more than ten years until that show came out!

Anyway, I'm planning on watching this as soon as I have the time. I was trying to get Nini to watch it with me earlier this week but she kept saying no. :-X
