As I said, I forgot the older thread entirely XD Someone said that there wasn't a thread already when we were discussing it, so I assumed that they'd searched and found nothing.

In happier news, it turns out that sometime this year, they're going to publish a collection of Pterry's short fiction, called A Blink of the Screen. I think I need this in my life.

He did tons of short stories while he was a journalist, and apparently they got published in this now-defunct magazine. The collection is the first time some of them have been reprinted since, apparently. Can't wait!

I loved Snuff :D Willikins was badass, Vimes was badass, everyone was hit over the head with the "racism is bad" anvil and the moments between Vimes and Young Sam rank among the cutest things in the known universe. <3

Also, I love the implication that a man who walks into a room intending to hurt Young Sam and finds Vimes instead of Sybil got off easy.

I loved it too.
Sam jr. .... *cuddles him till his mother thinks I am trying to suffocate him*
But what the hell is Stinky (excuse my Klatchian)

Going to read Unseen Academics next. (But I am going to try to get my hands on the other books as well)

Do you read the books in English?
Personally, I prefer reading a work in it's original language (sadly, I only understand German and English), but vocabulary in this series is sometimes a challenge for me.

I read them in english and german :)
Both versions are great ~ I just can't decide :P

It takes a lot to understand Pratchett as a non native english speaking person. That man is just brilliant.

I read it in English. I wonder how well it translates; half of the work is subtle wordplay and clever punes (a play on words) XD Plus there are recurring phrases that are pisstakes of or alternate versions of particularly English idiosyncrasies; I wonder how the recurring phrase "the world is your mollusc" and variations thereof translate, coming as it does from the phrase "the world is your oyster". What are the foreign equivalents of that?

I know what you try to say but I can't think of the correct german phrasing right now.
I'll give it some thought :)

The translations are accurate and great, it's just that I like to read the original work ;)

Hey, I'm thinking about buying Going Postal and/or The Hogfather on DVD. What did you think about the films?

I adored Hogfather, I just wish there was more Grim Squeaker. Going Postal was really well-done, too. They're both well worth it.

So that this thread doesn't die again:
Which book do you want to see as film next and why
