Don't think so.  DS and DSL had GBA slots, while DSi and DSiXL have SD card slots (for media).

(wish they didn't drop the GBA port  :-\)

No, I'm pretty sure they put it back in for the XL....I can tell you for sure on Sunday, though, when we go pick up my husband's XL.
I have finally started to actually publish my story! For the moment, expect a new chapter each month.

The Case of the Midnight Channel
"When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though.
If Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery."

Short version: I'm taking various DC/MK characters to Inaba (where Persona 4 takes place) and dropping them through the TV to face their Shadows!

Well, the Japanese DSi LL (DSiXL) didn't have a GBA port:

If they added a GBA slot back into the North American release, I'd be happy, but I don't see that happening.

so apparently the video I posted earlier wasn't a 2ds mockup demo anyway, I was lied to when I was originally linked it D:

but anyway I'm interested in how it turns out. Though I probably won't buy one, it's always neat to see Nintendo putting out new stuff like this.

there's been what, the ds lite, dsi, dsi XL, and now 3d ds?

Focus on the next gen handheld!  If they don't I really think the iphone will slowly start gaining momentum for on-the-go gaming.
...This is the next gen handheld.  It will be backwards compatible with the DS, just as the DS was with the GBA, the GBA with the GBC, and the GBC with the GB.

And please, don't compare random ass Java and Flash games with real games.
My bad, I didn't know the 3d ds was the next gen handheld, I thought it was just another spinoff of the DS.

I wasn't comparing, but there's without a doubt that the iphone, being a jack of all trades will eventually become a competitor against the DS for handheld gaming.  Of course games on the iphone are of a much lower quality, but non-gaming iphone owners (which I assume is the majority of iphone owners?) are under the impression that they having a gaming system in their hands right now, and that they don't need to dish out the extra 150$ or w/e a DS cost nowadays with the 30-40 $ increment of games.

I mean, it's kind of similar with the scenario with the Wii being the top dog in the console war, beating Microsoft and Sony in certain aspects.

I know a TON of people who don't even game that have put like more like 7 hours into 2 dollar or freeware games on the iphone.  And hey, who knows, with tech advancing rapidly these days, we might be able to see some stellar iphone games - i know that the Metal Gear developers specifically designed a MGS game for the iphone, and don't try to BS me that they make "random ass java and flash games".

They were able to make a MG for PSP too.

Except.

It was a card game.  ;)

Then they weren't Nintendo's target demographic anyway.  Trying to reach a demographic that has zero interest in your product is business suicide.

No it's not.

The iphone doesn't even have the memory capacity for stellar games.  You'll get a few random impressive ones, like perhaps the MGS one, but truly stellar games would consume the entire system's memory.

Also, one game is not the norm.  The norm for the iphone are random ass java and flash games.

not even flash games really, because the iphone doesn't actually support flash.

I'd forgotten it didn't support java either, so as far as browser games go I guess it'd only have JavaScript games, yeah. But, to be fair, most (I'd say all but I have no proof of that :P) apps on the appstore are written in objective C, which isn't bad, but I don't know of anybody that actually uses objective C other than to make iphone games, not to mention that you can't actually make iphone apps without a mac.

The DSi XL already was released.  In Japan.  Where Nintendo is located.
Thats why I said before.
And that's why you're wrong.  Since it's already been released, months ago in fact, how could this announcement which just happened this week have come before its release?
I hate to bring back something from the first page, but in Japan, the dsiXL is called the dsiLL, thus Xcommando is technically correct when he said before the dsiXL is released  ;)

And what's with all of the ipod touch/iphone gaming hate? There are some pretty good games for it on there. I own a touch and enjoy it for gaming as well as music and a mobile browser. I guess that's just me, but I enjoy it  :P

Their fault for complaining because I didn't say exactly where It was not released. I thought it was obvious I meant the Americas.

How was it obvious?  You were comparing the one thing, the announcement of an item in Japan, to another thing, the release date of another item.  Logic dictates that, pending any further clarification, the latter item would also be in reference to the same location as the former.

Well I could tell that I meant the Americas. Then again I did write it.
