And whoa, hold up.  MG is not the most overrated franchise.  I'll admit that MGS2's story was a hyping dream in a dream in a dream like confusing, but dude - the characters from the franchise have to be most awesome characters evar.

The older games (MGS1 and MGS2) had some funky ass gameplay like you said which you definitely needed a strategy guide for some parts (psycho mantis lol) and the whole backtracking thing is annoying, but hey, those games are a decade old now.

MGS3 I think was awesome though, and it was the one game in the series where I didn't need to load up metalgear.wikia after I beat the game.  MGS4's gameplay was incredible. 

Besides, the most overrated video game franchise already belongs to the Halo series.

Playstation 1 graphics for the win!  There really needs to be a remake of the older metal gear games, excluding the one on gamecube (seriously..gamecube?)

Revolver Ocelot is probably my favorite character in the whole series, just love his whole choir soviet boy get-up in mgs3, his cowboy look in 1 and 2, and his big pimpin look with those shades in 4.

The Colonel flat out told you how to defeat Psycho Mantis if you called him on the codec. You don't need a guide for that.
