i tried the e-mail -- am I supposed to get a very specific reply in the context of Sherlock/Moriarty? if so I'm not getting it :S
Spoiler:
am proud to say that I also made the connection between the rubber ball and Sherlock stopping his pulse! if I remember correctly John took his pulse via Sherlock's right hand, and Sherlock was lying on his right side, so that his right arm would be squished under the weight of his body -- it was only after John had let go of his arm that Sherlock's body was turned over.
I was just re-reading The Final Problem and realised that in Professor Moriarty's first appearance (ie. this story), his first name was never actually mentioned. In fact in that story James Moriarty is named as his brother. It was only in later stories (Empty House, Valley of Fear) that he was mentioned as Professor James Moriarty. Wikipedia also notes this inconsistency (and apparently fans make fun of the fact that the Professor and his brother have the same first name :p).
..I know the whole world takes it for granted that Professor Moriarty's first name is James, but I wonder if Moffat and Gatiss may take advantage of the inconsistency (like they did with the inconsistency of John's leg/shoulder injury in the books) -- and introduce the real Professor Moriarty, with Jim being only his brother?? o_o
yeah i know it's a bit mad, and i dont like the idea myself since it takes away from Jim Moriarty's force as the main villain (I'm a fan of Andrew Scott's performance), but i guess these are ideas you get at 2 in the morning :X
it doesn't have to take away from Andrew Scott's performance, they could be identical twins and the actor could come back :V
What email did you get back, caribou? I got a particular out-of-office autoreply within two minutes, and it was creepy
I wouldn't be surprised if SM and MG did do something to that effect, as well. They already took the piss out of Conan-Doyle being unable to remain consistent about whether Watson's wound was in his shoulder or leg (John's psychosomatic limp even though his actual wound was in his shoulder) and his similar inability to remember when John was meant to be married and what his wife's actual name was (Sherlock being unable to remember John's girlfriend's names). Moffat has mentioned that he has "endless fun" looking up little references to slip into the episodes, so I wouldn't expect that naming issue to have slipped past him.
I remembered that from Gosick too and Detective Conan, but I didn't place it at the time as I thought it might have been a coincidence. I should have remembered that in Sherlock nothing is coincidental.

HAHA! that came across my mind too. they could even be triplets since it seems Moriarty had yet another brother..? (i duno if i'm just imagining it now, and too lazy to check at the moment..)
but anw i'm glad there are other people who think the idea is possible
@mangaluva
ahh ok if it's the auto reply then yeah I got the same as well just wasn't sure if I was supposed to get something other than the out of office reply!!
Spoiler:
about the rubber ball, yeah i actually saw a youtube video about the trick and read about it in other places as well but i didn't even make the connection until a few days later! =_= well, i am obviously no Sherlock.
"Shh! Celebrate after the curtain of this bloody stage closes."

got the autoreply too. something like please contact the journalist instead. i have a feeling we'll see more of moriarty. or his brother. or... whoever, really. that autoreply is too suggestive. is moran going to show up? have they already cast someone for that role? i'm assuming the first episode for the third season is the empty house.
@BK: i haven't watched the alternate pilot yet.
KID and Shinichi sitting on a tree... S-O-L-V-I-N-G ... crimes...
I thought tha sniper at the end might be Moran, they did kinda focus a lot more on him than necessary and he has the added bonus of looking somewhat similar to Sherlock, maybe the person the girl saw...?

I assume Moran's around. He could well have been one of the snipers at the pool... It looked like there were multiple, but only one had a steady hand. He probably was the sniper focused on John in the last episode. He was probably the sniper at the end of "The Blind Banker" as well.
Finally remembered to watch the two latest episodes I had been waiting like hell but then I got busy and forgot T__T
And what's with e--mail everyone's talking about?
Conclusion: "This area is full of crap" and "It's a nasty place!"
1. Send an email to [email protected]
2. Leave the subject line blank.
3. Write only "I believe in Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty was real" in the body of the message.
4. A few minutes after you send it, you will receive an out-of-office autoreply....
One of the things I like about Sherlock is that it really allows Steven Moffat to shine as a writer. He's fantastic at single episodes, and short-seasons like Sherlock, but he just goes a bit overboard when given a full-length season to play with. Just look at the last season of Doctor Who.
